Insurance Scripts
I understand that receiving coverage for much needed preventative and medical care can be a stressful and frustrating task. My goal is to make this process as easy as possible, so we can focus more on your care, and less on your paperwork. Scroll down to verify coverage or out of network reimbursement.
If You have Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allways,
or Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare:
If you are contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allways, or Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare, call the number on the back of your card and ask the following questions to verify coverage before booking your first appointment.
Does my plan cover outpatient medical nutrition therapy (or nutrition counseling)?
Does my plan cover telehealth?
If yes, how many sessions are allowed?
Does my plan only cover visits that are considered “medically necessary”?
Do I have a deductible to meet first? If yes, how much?
Do I need a physician referral? If you need a physician referral, this must be done at least 1 week prior to our session.
What is my co-pay amount for outpatient nutrition counseling?
Please note that if you reside outside of the state of MA, there are only a few select states in which we can practice via telehealth due to dietetic licensure laws. Please inquire.
if you are contracted with
another insurance agencY:
If you are not contracted with the above agencies, and you would like to inquire about Out of Network Reimbursement, call the number on the back of your card and ask the following questions to verify reimbursement before booking your first appointment.
Optional Script: Hello, I am interested in seeing an out-of-network registered dietitian. Does my plan provide reimbursement for out-of-network providers?
If yes, make sure to ask the following questions:
How many sessions does my plan cover, and how long are the sessions?
What is my deductible, and has it been met?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Do I need pre-authorization from my insurance company or PCP?
For your own peace of mind (and organization) make sure to ask your insurance company exactly how to submit your Superbill (the detailed receipt that I will provide you after your sessions) for reimbursement.
Optional Script: After my appointment with my Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, where do I send the Superbill for reimbursement, and when can I expect to be reimbursed?
Important Note:
If you are planning on receiving out-of-network reimbursement for medical nutrition therapy, you are responsible for payment at the time of your service. As the out-of-network provider (registered dietitian nutritionist), I will provide you with a Superbill (a detailed receipt, provided by my office), which you will submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
HSA/FSA CARDS and ACCOUNTS
If your insurance plan does not cover nutrition counseling but you do have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account (HSA/FSA) card, you can use that to pay for your sessions.
